Spotlight on Kairos Inside Prison Ministries

Twice a year in correctional institutions all across the U.S. and in several other countries, Kairos teams gather for an intensive and intentional weekend, from Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, to share the Christian message of love and hope with prisoners. Inter-denominational teams of Kairos volunteers spend a minimum of 34 hours in team meetings before the weekend to train, plan, get acquainted, and most of all, to pray for God's blessings on their efforts to be the face of Jesus behind prison walls. Their mission statement is as follows: "The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities."

To find out how you can get involved with Kairos ministry opportunities near you, visit the online map of Kairos Chapters. Not all of the volunteer work requires a commitment to go inside a prison. The "inside team" is always supported by an "outside team" who will prepare and transport food, take care of other logisitics—and of course, pray—so that the work inside will run smoothly. There is quite literally something that every Christian can do to support this important ministry.
